Today sees the launch of my sixth novel, The Villa Next Door. To say I am excited is an understatement. Not least because a) it’s been a long time coming; over a year in fact since my submission to my publisher; b) this one felt different somehow, with a simple yet powerful plot, and c) the thought of this novel coming to life kept me going throughout nine months of gruelling treatment for ovarian cancer.

And whether it is due to the long lead-in, or the fuzziness that comes with chemo brain (it’s a thing), The Villa Next Door has had a mirage like quality; shimmering in the distance, tantalising, stepping back as I stepped towards it. AND NOW IT IS FINALLY HERE!

Some thank yous then. To Bloodhound Books, my brilliant publisher, based in Cambridge, and run by a crack team of literary experts – including several best selling authors in their own right. I am so thankful to Team Bloodhound for their faith and encouragement, with special mentions for Tara, Hannah, Abbey, Lexi – and of course founders Fred and Betsey.

Another huge thank you to every bookworm, blogger and reviewer who requested or accepted an advance review copy (ARC) ahead of publication day. Awaiting feedback is nerve wracking but to date I am thrilled by readers’ responses. Oh, I know that will change, and that the one and two star reviews will start to tumble in, but it’s all part of the process.

My thanks, too, to the book bloggers who support authors on social media, purely for the joy of reading – bookworms to the core – and in this instance, as part of an organised group run by the very professional Kelly at Love Books Tours.

A big thank you to the authors who support my work through thick and thin – and for keeping in touch throughout my scary and miserable cancer journey. You are amazing and I appreciate you.

Massive thanks to the family members who read and celebrate every one of my books with great pride and enthusiasm – so, so kind. Also, a giant thank you to my husband, Mark – for his tireless support and belief in me, when my belief in myself has run dry as it often does. My best friend, beta-reader, backer in every way and the most awesome husband and life partner anyone could wish for.

Finally, a huge heartfelt thank you to everyone who buys, reads and reviews my book – I appreciate your time when life is so bonkers and busy.

So tonight, Mark and I will quietly raise a glass of pink fizz to The Villa Next Door, setting it free and hoping it will fly.
